How Do You Know What to Believe with Media Spinning Truth to Fit Their Narrative?
Praying for discernment has never been more critical. 🙏
Wisdom and discernment are vital companions on life’s journey, ones I pray for daily. As we reflect on this Wisdom Wednesday, I want to ask: Are you seeking discernment in these tumultuous times? We’re undoubtedly in the last days, where evil seems to be running rampant, and the spiritual battle is more evident than ever. The deception spread by mainstream media is staggering.
But what does discernment mean practically? It’s about making sound judgments and staying focused on what truly matters, resisting the allure of superficial distractions. Unlike the fool, whose attention flits from one thing to another, a discerning person maintains clarity and purpose. This steadfastness will lead to stability and wise choices because you can hear from the Lord and drown out the noise.
Proverbs 17:24 paints a vivid picture: “A discerning person keeps wisdom in view, but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth.”
It’s a reminder that true discernment requires intentional effort to keep wisdom at the forefront of our thoughts and decisions. Discernment isn’t something that just happens; you’ve gotta work at it. When we keep our focus on what’s true, it helps us make better choices and live with more meaning.
In essence, discernment is not just a passive attribute but an active pursuit. It calls us to prioritize wisdom over impulse, truth over deception, and lasting values over fleeting desires. This intentional living fosters personal growth, deepens spiritual maturity, and enriches our journey toward a fulfilling life.
Here are some scriptures to contemplate from the Living Bible. These verses serve as my guide, helping me to develop the discernment I need to navigate the complexities of our world. I hope you’ll find them helpful, too.
Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how his ways will really satisfy you.”
Philippians 1:9-1 “And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.”
Hebrews 5:14 “But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”
Philippians 1:9-10 “My prayer for you is that you will overflow more and more with love for others, and at the same time keep on growing in spiritual knowledge and insight, for I want you to always see clearly the difference between right and wrong, and to be inwardly clean until the day of Christ returns.”
Tommy and I are in travel mode. I was able to write my post today because I feel so passionate about the subject. The little bit of news I’ve watched made it clear to me how essential discernment is, mainly because we’re bombarded by so many voices trying to shape our worldview. In all the noise, I encourage you to pause, seek God’s wisdom, and ask for His guidance in making the right choices. Stay anchored in His Word, and He’ll help you stay on course, even when the world around us feels like it’s spinning out of control.
Remember, His guidance is always there for us, providing a comforting anchor in the storm. Let’s continue to pray for the discernment we need to navigate these challenging times, trusting that our Lord and Savior will lead us with clarity and peace.
Thanks for reading my newsletter. We’ve had an interesting trip. I’ll have a lot of travel tales to share with you on Sunday.
This is why my Mom always said to believe nothing you hear and only half of what you actually see!!!! The media is diseased.
